A Wife's Perspective on Marriage and How I Took Responsibility for My Husband's Feelings

In the past six months my husband Christopher and I have gone consistently to marriage counseling to reconnect and heal what had been broken from our long distance relationship. One of the patterns for me as his wife was “selfish tunnel vision.” No my counselors didn’t come up with that I did that all on my own! Haha! What I mean by selfish tunnel vision is I was seeing our marriage through a very small lens of my own feelings, hurts, betrayals, and hardships but not seeing my husband’s feelings. Basically playing the victim of our issues versus looking inwardly to what role I played in our disconnect because you can only control yourself.

How To Build Your Modeling Portfolio Without An Agency

After modeling for my blog in NYC and Europe I fell in love with posing in front of the camera, creating a story through pictures, and coming up with Cali inspired shoots here in Los Angeles. I was for the first time without a photographer. My best friend shot with me in NYC and Chris shot on our DSLR on the cruise ship but without a photographer for my blog in Los Angeles. My only idea was to ask new friends to help me out but that felt vulnerable and uncomfortable knowing well that my photos wouldn’t have the quality they had up to that point.

And then…SOCIAL MEDIA…changed…everything! Read below for how I started working with photographers in LA.

How Marriage Counseling Changed My Relationship With My Husband

Some people experience turmoil 10-15 years down the road but for us it was early in marriage. Not to say we won't still go through our hardships but this summer we learned where our missteps were, how to communicate effectively, our core fears in our relationship, and how "control" has been the biggest common thread on why we have conflict. Phew! I know that's a lot. But I think there's a stigma about newlyweds/young married couples. The stigma being that everything must be bliss and perfect because your newlyweds. Umm...NOT TRUE! Why I'm Wearing A Bikini After My 7 lb. Weight Gain

I don't think our weight or our body insecurities should define us as people but so often we let it! In a world filled with Kim Kardashians it's really hard to feel secure in the body God gave you. Trust me I know! I've always struggled with body image, so much so that I had an eating disorder for a brief period in high school. I've gained weight, I've lost weight, I've gained muscle but never saw the scale move, I've gained weight when I started working out, I've done it all! And the only thing I can say is my body has never looked radically different, so much of it has been in my mind. So much of this crazy ride that is being healthy and fit is mental! YOU HAVE TO GET OUT OF YOUR OWN WAY!!! That's really it.

Little Whimsical White Dress

Last month I finished off spring in Ashland Oregon with my husband as he finished playing "Guy" in Once (A Musical.) Maybe you've heard of the movie. As I visited Ashland several times this past spring I always wanted to take pictures at this beautiful little spot downtown and I couldn't imagine a more perfect fairytale photography moment. I'm wearing a cropped corset like top from Anthropologie (old) and this vintage embroidered white skirt by Ralph Lauren. Funny enough I found this skirt at Good Will in Ashland! I can never turn down a good vintage piece like this one. Don't be afraid to look at thrift stores and places like Good Will!!! Seriously you never know what you might find! :)
